Welcome to the opening of the Amsterdam innovation district

“Emerging technologies and the future of cities: myths and opportunities”

   Wednesday October 9th 14h00 – 19h15

Join us for an inspiring afternoon from the midst of the construction of the district (literally…), where we’ll dive into the myths and opportunities of emerging technologies and the future of cities. You’ll hear about the latest in ‘collaborative innovation’ and, last but not least, the Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema and ING’s CEO Ralph Hamers will officially open the district and… reveal its name, followed by a party to celebrate!

      Why the innovation district?

Countless companies and organizations are facing challenges that require them to fundamentally transform from silos to collaborative ways of working and from an internal approach to innovation to an open and collaborative innovation.

Amsterdam’s innovation district provides an infrastructure that enables and supports collaborative innovation, particularly in the fields of urbanization and digital identity. It offers an ecosystem, methods, tools, as well as physical spaces. Where a new generation of policymakers, researchers, innovators, techies, creatives and executives can connect with peers across sectors and innovate and build solutions together.

Keynote speakers

Dr. Anthony Townsend is the author of ‘Smart Cities’ and an internationally recognized expert on the future of cities and information technology. Joining us from New York, he will share his latest insights and show us which of the predictions in his 2013 book have become reality and which turned out to be myths. More importantly, he’ll show us where to find opportunities. Dr. Townsend is a frequent contributor to publications such as the New York Times, The Economist and TIME magazine and is about to publish his next book.

Speaker

Prof. Dr. Ir. Alessandro Bozzon is professor and chair of human-centred artificial intelligence at Delft University of Technology and leads the urban data science team at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions. He will help us make sense of emerging technologies, which often seem to be the magic answer to everything. But how do we actually make it work? How do we balance ethics and privacy challenges, while remaining competitive and relevant? Professor Bozzon will guide us through the complex maze of these new technologies and point out both the possibilities and improbabilities.
